What will I be doing on my China trip for People to People Citizen Ambassador

I mentioned a few blog posts ago I was invited by National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) to particpate in the People to People Citizen Ambassador Program being held in the month of October for 3 weeks. Here is some additional information I received about the trip:

We are honored to have Mr. Pinales as the delegation leader, as his involvement will greatly enhance the focus of the exchange. Mr. Pinales is the past president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). Mr. Pinales has served for more than 20 years as co-chair of NACDL’s Lawyers Assistance Committee; he is also partner in the Cincinnati law firm of Sirkin, Pinales & Schwartz LLP and has taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law since 1974. He has suggested the following initial topics of discussion, which will be further refined as the team is formed to incorporate delegates specialized areas of interest and expertise.

- Investigate the role and independence of the defense lawyer and the court in China
- Explore the function of the prosecutor
- Professionalism and ethics of the criminal trial lawyer
- Discuss investigation and winess interviews
- Explore and compare the U.S. and Chinese legal systems
- Discuss areas of improvement and advancement in both systems

As a member of the delegation, you will represent your profession while advancing the ideals of the People to People International, a nonpolitical, private-sector organization dedicated to promoting international understanding. Since its founding by President Eisenhower in 1956, People to People has developed high-level professional exchanges to encourage dialogue with counterparts in other nationals.

The success of any delegation depends largely on the individual delegates. The composition of this delegation will directly impact the professional benefits derived by each team team member. Whether its here in the US (Virginia) or abroad I am always trying to educate myself on the legal and judicial system. I am always trying to better myself to be able to represent my clients better.
