Those of you that have been getting our newsletters know why we are different. For those reading our new blog may not know… First off, I am the only attorney in all of Virginia that takes only DUI cases. I am the only attorney in the Tidewater area that is a nationally certified breath test operator. I have actually taken three Intoxilyzer courses including a maintenance and repair course so I could truly understand how the machine works. I am the only attorney in the Tidewater are that has taken the federal governments course on field sobriety testing. I use my training to conduct in depth cross examination of how the tests were conducted and what interpretations should be given for “failing” parts of the tests. Many officers do not conduct the tests properly, therefore the results of the tests are discredited before the judge. I am the only attorney in the Tidewater area that is a member of the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD). This is an organization of the very best DUI attorneys in the country. NCDD is invaluable for two reasons. One we have a list serve where any dui question can be posted. Not only are the best attorneys in the country responding, we have scientists and doctors on the list serve as well who are answering medical and technical questions. The other reason NCDD is invaluable is the education that the college provides. We meet every three months for a three day seminar. The best of the best are teaching. It is also a time to establish true friendships with other committed DUI lawyers from around the country. I have not missed one seminar in over three years. In addition to the NCDD seminars, I also attend other DUI related seminars throughout the country. In June I will be traveling to Wyoming for a course on the new machines we will be getting in Virginia that will replace the Intoxilyzer 5000. The new machine by the way is the ECIR2. It is a little more sophisticated than the Intoxilyzer but it still makes the same assumptions about every person that are not necessarily true, and it still doesn’t provide safeguards to many medical issues that can cause false results.
I am very passionate and fully committed to providing the absolute best defense possible to citizens accused of a DUI. For many, their career and livilhood is on the line. For many, their freedom is on the line. I could not in good faith represent these people who have so much at stake unless I felt that no issue would be missed in their defense. There are literally hundreds of potential issues in a DUI case. Unfortunately most attorneys only look for the obvious few.
